Gallagher DevOps Engineer in Queensland, Australia

The position

Currently we are seeking a DevOps / Linux Systems Engineer to join our corporate office located in Brisbane CBD . This is a Full Time 12 month contract , with the view to go permanent.

This role is part of our IT Infrastructure Team who are responsible for managing the critical systems which support our business across Australia and New Zealand. If you have a passion for providing excellent customer service and enjoy working with Linux plus contemporary DevOps tools to provide reliable application environments, then this role is for you.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Systems management of Linux systems which support key business applications, utilising ITIL practices

  • Efficient deployment and management of new application releases into a complex systems environment utilising contemporary DevOps practices and tools

  • Working closely with our Applications team to ensure the environment meets their business requirements

  • Ensuring the systems are setup in a robust manner to meet requirements for monitoring, availability, backup and DR/BCP

  • Provide expert advice and contribute to planning for new requirements coming into the environment

  • Adherence to change and release management procedures and policies

  • Development and ongoing maintenance of technical documentation

  • Participation in support and on-call rosters

What we are looking for:

  • Extensive Linux system administration experience in a business critical enterprise environment

  • Experience maintaining business critical systems supporting contemporary multi-tier, complex business applications

  • Enjoys working in a team environment & collaborating with colleagues to deliver solutions based on best practice

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT or Computer Systems Engineering

  • Familiar with Agile and ITIL processes

  • Strong passion for UNIX and Linux system administration

  • Strong Red Hat Enterprise Linux system management

  • Automated system builds and deployment

  • DevOps tools & processes such as Puppet & Chef

  • Linux systems security administration, firewall rules, host based IDS and system hardening to security standards

  • Understanding of user authentication systems – Active Directory/LDAP/Kerberos/SAML

  • Familiar with system monitoring techniques and log consolidation (Splunk)

  • Strong scripting ability (bash, perl, python, jython)

  • Strong experience with virtualisation (preferably VmWare)

  • Experience with web server technologies (Apache, PHP)

  • Experience with J2EE application servers (WebSphere, JBoss, Tomcat) including clustering/high availability configuration

  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking (addressing, VLANs, DNS, routing, load balancing)

Desirable skills

  • Financial services experience

  • Exposure to development environments utilising Jenkins, Ant, Git

  • Exposure to Microsoft technology (Windows Server 2012, SQL Server, Powershell & IIS)

  • Exposure to business critical systems - disaster recovery and business continuity processes

  • Familiar with Storage Area Network storage systems

  • Experience with public cloud services (AWS or Azure)

  • Experience with Fineos

  • Experience with MuleSoft ESB
